Scanlines is live — and we're here to do one thing: take modern retro games seriously.

There's a whole world of brand-new games being made today for retro platforms — the Game Boy, NES, SNES, Mega Drive, Amiga, and beyond. Homebrew developers, small studios, and full publishers are all still shipping new games for old hardware. It's one of the most exciting corners of gaming right now — and almost none of it gets a proper review.

That's what we're here for.

What to expect

Honest, hands-on reviews of new retro games: what they are, how they play, who they're for, and whether they're worth your time and money. We judge every game in its own context — a new Game Boy game against what a great Game Boy game can be, not against a modern blockbuster. No hype, no marketing copy, no scores you can't trust.

Independent — and upfront about it

Our reviewers are paid a flat fee, never for a positive score, and no developer or publisher signs off on a review before it runs. You can read exactly how we work, and who's behind us, on our About page.
